Singapore Eating Places

Hawker Centres or cooked food centre is an open-air complex housing many stalls that sell a variety of inexpensive food. They are typically found in city centres, near public housing estates or transport hubs. It’s a MUST try to eat here to get the local Singapore food experience.

Coffee Shops are common eating places found in most of the housing estates outside the city of Singapore and usually located at the ground floor of the housing block.

Food Court are common eating places that are air conditioned usually found in shopping malls.

Best Hawker Centres For Tourists

1/ Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre (best to eat in morning and lunch)

2/ Newton Circle Hawker Center (best to eat during dinner. The Singapore dining scene in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”.)

3/ Maxwell Hawker Centre (best for lunch time. Where you can find the famous Michelin Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice)

4/ Chinatown

5/ Little India (for Indian dishes)

6/ Makansuntra Gluttons Bay (Esplanade)

7/ Albert Food Centre

Here are other restaurants and food shops that are our personal favorites. Some of them are affordable, yet some are expensive but are really really good.

1/ Din Tai Fung | Price: $$$$ – $$$$$

Chinese food experience in a decent dining setting.

Recommended: Shrimp Fried Rice, Fried Rice with Pork and Xiao Long Bao

Xiao Long Bao Tip: Bite a small hole on top and sip the sauce > pour vinegar into the hole and add the ginger > eat

2/ Astons | Price: $$$

Affordable and Delicious Steaks with variety of side dishes

Try any of their steaks!

3/ Genki Sushi | Price: $$$$$$$

Order arrives on a train. Their salmon sushi/bowl are to die for.

4/ Sushi Express | Price: $$

Cheaper and decent sushi in a conveyor belt.

Expert tip: You can buy sushi at a cheaper price once it reaches 9PM+. Just go to the malls and check out the basement for any sushi shop OR go to NTUC Fair Price. They mark down the prices during this time.

5/ Keisuke | Price: $$$

Affordable and delicious Ramen with free egg and yummy bean sprouts.

6/ Don Don Donki | Price: $$

Huge variety of Japanese food [and other items] ranging from sushi, bento, ice cream – name it all. You’ll go crazy in this place!

7. Hai Di Lao Hot Pot | Price: $$$$$

Price depends on your spending. Alternatively, you can check out the ones in Chinatown that offers hot pot but lower price

8. Bergs | Price: $$$

Gourmet burgers so unique and different from your usual fast food burgers. It comes with huge fries as side dish but the burgers alone are so huge you won’t make it to side dish.

9. MBK Thai | Price: $$$-$$$$

Halal Thai Food in Tampines West Market. Even though it’s Halal, the Basil Chicken and Garlic Chicken are really tasty, even tastier than the usual Pork in Thai cuisine.

10. Waa Cow | Price: $$$$

Super delicious Wagyu Beef and Mentaiko Salmon bowls you will drool just with the smell.

11. Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory

A taste of Japan in Singapore with variety of ice cream in cone or with cheese cake all in one.

Tip: There’s one at Jewel Changi Basement beside Potato Corner.
